HDD vs. SSD vs. NVMe

HDD

High storage capacity for a reasonable price. Suitable for backup, data storage, and stream operations (e.g. video coding).

SSD

Fast read/write speed, however, there are a limited number of 'write' cycles (up to a few million). Such a capacity is enough for 2 to 3 years. These drives are used for databases.

NVMe

These drives feature a very high read and write speed exceeding that of SSD drives, although their lifespan is the same. The drive can go out of service after a few months of active usage. They are suitable for storing multiple files and databases if the main workload is reading data.
